Specific Tempering/Glass Mfg Co's *Old Castle
Hello all, First off, Thanks to Dan Fields for your work with fabricating debris. Without your info and your personal help some time ago, my co. would have been sunk by now. The question- is anyone working on a database of tempering co's and glass manufacturers etc. and there issues, good and bad? If not, can I front this project or help in some way, if so, how do I contribute info? For example, I have been noting (informally the tempering stamp info when we have problems. One of the big suppliers here in Colorado is Old Castle. If I see their stamp, I do not walk on to the project without a waiver and I charge more. I met with a glazier and a rep from old castle on a project, and while hearing me out w/ the Dan Fields info, they yielded not an inch and insisted I pay retail for the replacement, etc. Just a thought, maybe a database of these guys, their glass, their stance, responsiveness, etc. would be helpful to all.

Michael,
One thing at a time.
First, I've been asked several times to offer a POOR quality data base. I could do that, but the liability of doing so discourages me.
Besides, I'm hoping the GRAPPY fabricators will clean up their act. And, the quality fabricators could always fall asleep at the wheel and start producing poor quality surfaces at any time.
Poor quality heat-treated glass is easy to eliminate and easy to produce, but you never know when and where you will get it.
Second issue, Old Castle glass, you have said enough. I don't think I can add to your opinion.
I would end my response with, get a waiver signed, each and EVERY time you are required to use a scraper on glass that the builder did not protect during construction.
Good luck,

Hey Mike and Mr. Fields,
We feel your pain Mike, we think we are currently the latest cleaning company Old Castle is trying to find at fault for poorly made glass. A Rep named Rick from Old Castle even claimed to have investigated you (Mr Fields)for 2 weeks as he told us your information was worthless and innacurate. Your information has proven to be invaluable to us also, we thank you. The gouges are so deep it's ridiculous to think a 1 1/2 scraper could that.
