streaks inside thermal pane
| I have seen quite a few windows that have streaks and marks within the pane. I have encountered a window that has already been installed and is showing the same factory-created streaking on the outside. It looks as though oil has been wiped across the glass but doesn't want to abrade off with oil-flow and 0000 steel wool. Razors are not an option. Has any one had success with A-1 or something? Our concern is that the supplier won't replace the glass if we have done anything beyond "normal cleaning" (I know). As of now they will replace it but the contractor is liable for the removal and re-installation. Any ideas of how I might save-the-day? Also...What is happening during the tempering process that enables this in the first place? Thank You--Sheldon |

Sheldon,
It sounds like the low-e coating is positioned on the wrong glass surface. It should be inside the I.G. unit, not on an exposed surface.
I would need to see the glass for more suggestions,
Sorry,

| I have a situation with several 8' French doors facing west with a 6' overhang. When the sun gets below the overhang and lights up the glass at that low angle you can see any defects clearly. We first had low e insulated units but changed them due to visable defects in the coating. Now even with clear IG there are still visable defects within the units. The homeowner is freaking out as we have replaced some pieces 6 times. We have used 3 different window manufacturers. Can't anyone make a defect free window? |
