sticky glass
I've been cleaning windows for about six years now and have periodically come across windows that seem to have sticky glass. You can feel the drag when wetting the glass, the squeegee tends to drag and it seems like the blade wears out faster and the few time I have put a razor blade on it, it tends to scratch. I now tend to just scrub these panes with a scotch pad and only scape carefully when needed. It seems to be more anderson and jeld wen windows than other brands. The odd thing is, when I get a job with sticky glass, it's only maybe 1 or 2 out of every ten although sometimes it's a higher percentage. It doesn't seem to be just tempered or just annealed glass either although it does seem to be just the outsides. Another thing I have noticed is that jobs with sticky glass seem to be more prone to get water spots and are generally harder to clean. Have you come across this? Any methods to get rid of the stickiness?

Colin,
It sounds like you might have some windows with a low maintenance or self cleaning coating, which you cannot use any aggressive cleaning methods to clean this glass.
Good luck,
